A top WWE superstar has finally said goodbye to his time in the promotion. Recently, fans have witnessed quite a few big names depart the Stamford-based company, with the popular tag team duo Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston leaving in May.
A few days ago, it was reported that former WWE Champion Sheamus was set to leave the sports entertainment giant with his contract set to expire. Following this, the Irish superstar removed all mentions of WWE from his social media bio and went back to using his real name.
Thanks for the submission!
Later, WWE also moved him to the alumni section of their official website, hinting that his time with them was coming to an end. According to reports, Sheamus was offered a contract extension with a restructured deal that would have seen him take a pay cut.
But instead of opting to sign the adjusted contract, the Fighting Irishman chose to call time on his near 20-year tenure with WWE. Now, the former World Heavyweight Champion has made the news official.
Taking to X, Sheamus used his popular “banger after banger” quote before waving goodbye to his WWE friends in Irish.
“Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Burger after Banger after Banger after Banger after 💔😔 slán mo WWE chairde 👋🏻 S. Farrelly,” he wrote.
During his time in the promotion, Sheamus won a number of accolades and championships. He was a four-time World Champion and won the US title three times. He also held the Tag Team championship a total of five times.
Apart from this, he won the 2010 King of the Ring, the 2012 Royal Rumble, and also captured the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2015.
Sheamus was frustrated with WWE creative before exit
A shoulder injury had sidelined Sheamus, with his last match for WWE coming in November 2025 on RAW.
Recently, on the Self Made Sessions, Ibou of Self Made Pro shed light on how the Celtic Warrior had grown disillusioned by the company’s creative led by Triple H.
He said that Sheamus had given up on the creative after they didn’t plan on him chasing the Intercontinental championship at WrestleMania 40. He then hoped to compete for the title at WrestleMania 41, but that also didn’t happen.
Self Made Pro mentioned that even before his injury, the 48-year-old wasn’t called to TV programming regularly.
