I think that hurt him a bit

Alex Pereira recently shared his thoughts on the Carlos Ulberg vs. Jiri Prochazka fight.

Prochazka and Ulberg threw down in a light heavyweight title fight in the main event of UFC 327 last weekend. While Prochazka started the fight strong and seemed to have the upper hand after Ulberg suffered a nasty leg injury in the opening round, ‘The Black Jag’ surprised everyone by managing to secure a first-round knockout victory.

In the aftermath, Prochazka claimed that he showed “stupid mercy” on Ulberg by allowing him to stand and trade shots instead of going after the injured leg. He also made it clear that he was looking for a rematch.

In a recent video posted by UFC Brasil, Pereira shared his take on Prochazka’s decision-making skills in the fight and opined that the Czech fighter’s “Samurai warrior kind of thing” hurt his chances at winning. He said:

“What happened there? Everyone saw that Ulberg got injured. We don’t know if it was from the kicks or if he was already hurt, but it doesn’t matter. Those are the risks of being in there. He knew that. The responsibility is entirely on the athlete, and that’s part of the game.”

He added:

“But during the fight, I was watching and I said, ‘Man, Jiri is going in hard, he looks different,’ and all that. That moment when he started calling him out, that samurai warrior kind of thing, I think that hurt him a bit, you know?… Both guys are trained, one wants to hurt the other. Unfortunately, Jiri had some actions that came at a very high cost. I think he learned a lot from it. That’s what I have to say.” [H/t: MMA Fighting]

Alexander Volkanovski dismisses Jiri Prochazka’s rematch call after Carlos Ulberg loss

Alexander Volkanovski recently reacted to Jiri Prochazka calling for a rematch against Carlos Ulberg after UFC 327 and dismissed the possibility of the Czech fighter getting his wish granted.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel (via @RedCorner_MMA on X), the UFC featherweight champion said:

“Nah, that’s not going to happen. I like Jiri… but it doesn’t work like that… How do you convince the UFC to give you a rematch because of the circumstances? They’re going to be like, ‘Wait, he tore his ACL and still managed to knock you out? It was a lot worse on his end than your end.’ So I don’t know how they’re going to go about that.”
