French journalist rips into Real Madrid for ‘misdiagnosis’ of Kylian Mbappe injury that could have ‘ruined his knee’

by Ohio Digital News

RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo has slammed Real Madrid for the alleged misdiagnosis of Kylian Mbappe’s knee injury. He claimed that the knee injury could have even cost the Frenchman the opportunity to feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe has faced multiple knee issues this year, leading him to miss two games in January and five games in February and March. There are rumors that the medical staff at Real Madrid misdiagnosed his injury. The attacker then saw a doctor in Paris, who reportedly built a special plan for his recovery.

Los Blancos have, notably, made changes to their medical staff in recent months after Mbappe’s first injury. RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo spoke about this on L’After Foot and said (h/t GOAL):

“It is an absolute disgrace for Real what has happened there. … This misdiagnosis could have had far more serious consequences, as it took Mbappé a long time to find out what was wrong with him. He was active elsewhere, even played a few matches, without knowing exactly what was wrong with him. He could have ruined his knee.”

Kylian Mbappe returned to action in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg on March 17. He made another substitute appearance in their last game against Atletico Madrid in LaLiga on Sunday, as they won 3-2.

Kylian Mbappe played over 26 minutes against Atletico Madrid and around 21 minutes against Manchester City. The forward has now joined the France national team for their friendlies against Brazil and Colombia this month.

On Monday, the Real Madrid star provided an update about his injury and said:

“My knee is fine. It’s getting better. Things are going pretty well and I know there was a lot of speculation about it and false things were said. That’s the life of a top-level athlete. We’re used to people saying things without checking them and without any basis.”

“I have recovered 100 per cent. I had the opportunity to receive a thorough diagnosis in Paris. And together we were able to draw up a plan to get back to my best form at Real Madrid and in the run-up to the World Cup,” he added.

Kylian Mbappe has scored 38 goals and provided six assists in 35 games across competitions for Los Blancos this season. The Spanish giants will face Mallorca away in LaLiga after the international break on April 4.
