The Rolling Stones released their 24th LP, Hackney Diamonds, last year, and the band is celebrating the album’s one-year anniversary with a special-edition re-release on vinyl.

NEW RELEASE

Hackney Diamonds (One-Year Anniversary Edition)

Two-Disc Set

Hackney Diamonds marked the Stones’ first original studio album in more than 18 years, and has been nominated for Best Rock Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Now, the band is re-releasing the album as a special-edition 2-LP vinyl.

Available on a “clear blue splatter” disc, the re-release features an additional seven live recordings performed at the album’s launch party in New York last October, including “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” with Lady Gaga. The anniversary release also features live performances of “Shattered,” “Tumbling Dice,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” among others, plus a 24-page photo book with new pictures of the band.

Hackney Diamonds (Amazon Exclusive Green Vinyl + Alternate Cover)

The original LP is still available as well. Amazon has the Rolling Stones vinyl in an exclusive lime green colorway and with an alternate cover. The cover features a pair of legs wrapped around a (broken) diamond heart, rather than having the heart held in a hand, like the original artwork. Amazon has also updated their official Rolling Stones merch store with new T-shirts, sweatshirts and accessories inspired by the new album.

In a review of the album, Rolling Stone’s David Browne wrote that Hackney is “the first Stones album in ages you’ll want to crank more than once before filing away,” adding that it’s “a collection of bangers (old-school division) that nobody in their right mind had a right to expect in 2023.”

Hackney Diamonds is the follow-up to 2016’s Grammy Award-winning, Blue & Lonesome, which featured cover versions of the band members’ favorite blues tracks. Hackney Diamonds also marks the band’s first studio album of original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang (a three-disc vinyl version of that album features live performances from the Stones’ “Bigger Band World Tour” in Rio de Janeiro).

As for Diamonds, the new album features guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, and Elton John. It also features the final recordings with the Stones’ legendary drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the remaining group members say they felt an urgency to create a new record, both to honor Watts and to capture some of the new sounds they were experimenting with on tour and in the studio.

“The thing started with Mick [Jagger] saying, ‘It’s important now that we make a record,’” Keith Richards says. “I’ve always thought that, but I said, ‘Well done, Mick.’ So he said, ‘We should blitz this thing and go for it.’ I said, ‘If you think you have enough material that you want to sing, then I’m right there behind you.’
