Sound meets the sea at Jones Beach Theater! A summer staple since the 1930s, this iconic venue sees a star-studded lineup of performers each year. With the ocean as a stunning backdrop, not much beats a night at this 15,000-seat open-air amphitheater.

Tucked away amongst the tranquil 2,400-acre Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026,  is consistently ranked as one of the country’s most prestigious summer performance centers. There’s something for everyone with performances from resident companies like New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Saratoga Jazz Festival (June 27-28), and concerts by Live Nation. Once the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival, today Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is home to a 16,000-person amphitheater and museum dedicated to the ‘60s and Woodstock. Each summer brings a packed lineup of performers across genres to this iconic venue with covered seating for 5,000 and lawn seating for 11,000. Known as the CMAC, the Constellation Brands Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center is a summer staple in the Finger Lakes region. Founded in 1983, this amphitheater features 10,000+ lawn seats and 5,000 covered seats, making it the perfect spot for jamming out to big name artists under the stars. Plus, the CMAC is located in Canandaigua, the heart of Finger Lakes Wine Country and just 45 minutes from Rochester.

Originally designed in the 1920s as the home of the US Open, Forest Hills Stadium officially started booking concerts in the 1960s, hosting music icons like Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan. This outdoor music venue, conveniently located near the subway and Long Island Rail Road, has stadium-style seating and a capacity of 13,000 with no obstructed views, and was designed with state-of-the-art acoustics. For shows with general admission floor seats, you’ll get to watch the show from the US Open Tennis courts!

Each summer, Park Playhouse brings professional outdoor productions to Albany’s beautiful Washington Park for free! Claim a spot on the grass and enjoy a night of family-friendly fun under the stars. The park will also host two free summer concerts as part of the Alive at Five series.

Summer at the Chautauqua Institution brings nine engaging weeks of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. With striking views of Chautauqua Lake as your backdrop, more than 100,000 visitors will head to this cultural landmark for theatrical productions, live music, dance, and more, many of which are held at the institution’s outdoor amphitheater.

For 60+ years,The Public Theater’s free Shakespeare at the Park has been a New York City summer staple. Each season promises intriguing Shakespearean productions and other classical works and musicals, held in the newly-renovated Delacorte Theater in Central Park

Hudson Valley Shakespeare (Hudson Valley)

Found just 80 minutes north of New York City in Garrison, Hudson Valley Shakespeare presents an exciting lineup of Shakespeare and contemporary plays each summer from an open-air theater. The company’s beautiful 98-acre campus overlooks the Hudson River and serves as a vibrant hub for local community and culture. Summer 2026 also marks the opening of the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center, the first-ever permanent home of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare.The 14,850-square-foot venue is protected from the elements yet open to the stunning Hudson Valley landscape.

Shakespeare in Delaware Park (Greater Niagara)

One of the oldest and largest outdoor Shakespeare companies in the country, Shakespeare in Delaware Park (SDP) is a must when visiting Buffalo. For over 50 years, SDP has presented two works of Shakespeare for six nights a week during the summer months–all for free! Each season sees more than 40,000 visitors from across the country and Canada.

Catskill Mountain Shakespeare (Catskills)

Enjoy professional theater in the mountains for Catskill Mountain Shakespeare’s 7th season. Each year, the company puts on two Shakespearean productions: a mainstage performance from The Red Barn on Main Street in Hunter, and the Community Tour which travels throughout the Catskills and New York State.

Little Island (NYC)

Found at Pier 55, Little Island is a one-of-a-kind public park that appears to be “floating” on the Hudson River. Each summer, the two-acre island comes alive with exciting live performances in music and theater, all backed by amazing city views.
