Mae Arlene (Farance) Mathess, age 90, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at The CrossRoads at Beaver Creek Assisted Living Center.

The daughter of the late Herman Farance and Mabel McConnell Wilkinson, she was born on August 8, 1931, living most of her life in Wellsville. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Glenn Mathess, on February 17, 2011. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evalyn Brandon and Dottie Welch.

She was a graduate of Wellsville High School Class of 1949 and Geneva College. She was an elementary teacher in the Wellsville School District for 30+ years.

Arlene was member of the Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #18 and an avid quilter.

She is survived by her two sons, Roger Mathess of Cleveland, Ohio, Brian Mathess and his wife, Angie, of Wellsville, Ohio and her daughter, Holly Martiny and her husband, Jim of Columbus, Ohio and one sister, Rita Spencer of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren Paul (Elizabeth) Serrin, Justin (Samantha) Mathess, Natalie Mathess (Anthony Cataldo) and 7 great grandchildren Mia and Eleanor (Ellie) Serrin; Emma and Owen Mathess; Bryson, Brianna and Gianna Mathess, whom she adored.

As per wishes of the family, private services will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery, Wellsville.

Arrangements were handled by the MacLean Chapel of the Care Funeral and Cremation Specialist.
