The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Niles and Jackson Township police departments, received grants to combat violent crime.
The money from the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program comes from federal American Rescue Plan Act funds and the state operating budget. A fourth round of funding was announced Friday with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office getting $366,800.
The Niles Police Department is getting $262,350 and the Jackson Township Police Department is receiving $35,847.
The money can be used to pay for retention bonuses to keep current law enforcement workers as well as to recruit new officers and pay for services to prevent and investigate violent crime.
