It’s almost opening day for the 167th Ohio State Fair, and as an intern for the Fair, it’s exciting to see the recently empty grounds coming to life with activity.
Since I was a kid, I’ve been involved with 4-H and I have fond memories of spending many fun days with my family at the Fair. I loved racing my brother down the Giant Slide and drinking lemonade shake-ups.
While all kids love the midway, the animals provide their own form of entertainment. This year, there is a new agricultural education program, where any upcoming fifth grader can show his or her report card at the entrance gates to receive free Fair admission for him or herself and a guardian. In addition to observing the pigs, cows and horses, kids can experience what it’s like to live on a farm by milking a real cow or riding a simulated tractor.
As I walk around and see the vendors setting up, I’m antipating all the yummy food I’ll be eating over the 10 days of the Fair. I’m new to the smartphone world (just got an iPhone!), so I’m excited to get to try out the new Food Finder app. The app works on both iPhone and Droid operating systems; just text “FoodFind” to 86272.
And of course, don’t forget all the memories waiting to be made with family and friends. Be sure to visit the Ohio State Fair website to plan your day at the Fair. While you’re there, check out our program guide for a full lineup of entertainment and attractions!
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Fair! The other interns and I have been working hard for months and we know that it’s paid off. I can already smell the french fries, and there’s a lemonade shake-up calling my name.
