WARREN — Cathrine W. Scates, 79, a 60-year resident of Warren, transitioned from this life on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from cancer.

She was born Sept. 13, 1942, to Nathaniel Walker and Eloise Walker of Fayetteville, N.C.

While she lived in Fayetteville, she married James E. Scates, a retired Army soldier, on Oct. 13, 1960. They had five beautiful children, who in turn gave them 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The eldest, Danielia (Frank L.) Crenshaw, have two children, James A.D. Scates, who have two sons, James Scates (21) and Anthony Gray (20); and Victoria Covington, who has one son, Mordecai B. Covington (3); Despina Scates (Sam Prince), who have a son, Dejon Scates; Diedra (Michael) Favors, who have two children, a daughter, Desja M. (Kevin) Davis, who have four sons, Benjamin Torres (19), Kevin Davis (15),Christian Davis (12) and Kaleb Davis (7); and their son, Josiah K. Favors (l6); and Ngwengi U. Scates, who has 10 daughters, Destiny (Derrick) Frazier, who have three children, Na’miyah Frazier (10), Nyjir Frazier (8) and Nalij Frazier (6), and his daughter, Essence Scates; Shatera Scates, who has a son, Cayden Booker (l0); Malika (Wayne) Simpson, who have a son, Rhyan (5); Mckenzie Scates; Jabreea Scates, who has a son, Ziyon Scates (l); Nkenge Scates; Summer Scates; Nyla Scates; Serenity Scates; and Jane Scates, who has two sons, Andrew (Layna) Craig), who have one daughter, Rayne Craig(8), and Roger Craig (Shaaniqa), who have three sons, Jay’Vion Clover (3), Jiovanni Clover (2) and Royce Craig (5 months), and her daughter, Cayla Craig.

Cathrine moved to Ohio after she married James, where they stayed with his mother, Leah Mae Henderson. She and her mother-in-law became good friends. They attended the same church, Second Baptist Church in Warren. Cathrine greatly loved her church and church family and was faithful in attendance for over 50 years. During her 60s, she went back to school and attained her associate degree in business management and accounting.

There will be a celebration of life at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Second Baptist Church, 1510 Main Ave. SW Warren, OH 44483, with the main service to take place at 11 a.m.

Please bring all food and gifts to Janie Scates’ home, 3830 N. Woods Court, Unit 4, Warren. (Her home is off North Road. There will be white balloons outside to help with the location of the home.)
