Samsung confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra will use a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Qualcomm and Samsung posted this on Instagram, confirming that the upcoming Galaxy Z foldables will be powered by the custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Well, there is an asterisk to that.

First, there is no phone visible in the video – just the outline of one. The aspect ratio suggests that this is the Galaxy Z Fold8, aka Z Fold Wide. When opened, this will have a 4:3 display inside. In its closed state, this phone is not as tall and narrow as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra (the new name of the classic book-style foldable). You can see the two side by side (in dummy form) here.

Anyway, both the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra will use the Snapdragon chip, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 will use an Exynos 2600 in Europe and South Korea. The Z Flip should use a Snapdragon chip everywhere else, though. Presumably, this will be the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

What does “for Galaxy” mean? The regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 runs its two prime Oryon cores at 4.61GHz and its Adreno 840 GPU at 1.2GHz. The “for Galaxy” variant bumps those up to 4.74GHz for the prime CPU cores and 1.3GHz for the GPU. Essentially, it is a higher bin of the same chip.

We’ve already seen this chip globally with the Galaxy S26 Ultra and in the S26 and the S26+ in select regions. Like the Z Flip, these two use the Exynos 2600 in Europe and South Korea, but also in India.

This hasn’t been fully confirmed yet, but Samsung is hinting that the new Z foldables will be introduced at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22.
