Dune: Awakening is coming to XBOX on September 22. Not only that; it’s also coming to XBOX Game Pass as an XBOX Play Anywhere title and will be Handheld Optimized, so you can play it across XBOX on PC, XBOX Series X|S, ROG XBOX Ally, and XBOX Cloud with cross-play and cross-progression support.
We’re absolutely thrilled to be giving everyone in the XBOX community the opportunity to take a step into one of the most iconic science fiction worlds ever created.
The game is available for pre-order on XBOX today at $49.99. Pre-ordering gives you the exclusive Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a small home for everyone’s favorite desert mouse that you can place in your base. Pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition ($69.99) or Ultimate Edition ($89.99) will also give you five days of early access, with the opportunity to play starting September 17. These special editions also include a host of other in-game goodies.
The version coming to XBOX on September 22 is not just a port from PC. It’s a bigger, better, and much more accessible experience. With everything new coming in addition to everything that has been rolling out on PC the past year, this will be the definitive version of Dune: Awakening. The ultimate Arrakis survival experience.
What Is Dune: Awakening?
Dune: Awakening is first and foremost an open world survival game. The core loop is about surviving on Arrakis and rising from nothing to greatness through exploration, combat, crafting, and building, whether you do it alone or with friends.
But it’s so much more than that. It also features immersive RPG and adventure gameplay that makes for a much richer, more accessible survival experience:
- A deep, engaging narrative told through hours of cinematic storytelling and featuring, among others, characters from the books and movies.
- A set of goals that guide you through the world, offering a sense of direction that makes the experience more accessible.
- A large open world spanning the survival-focused Hagga Basin, major cities such as Arrakeen, the vast Deep Desert with its spice and sandworms, and more.
- An RPG-like progression system where you can pursue five Schools of the Imperium, and where you decide which skills and abilities to unlock as you shape your character over time.
- An expansive late-game centered on the faction conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen, where you must not only rise through their ranks, but also complete missions for them to ensure their victory in the Landsraad.
- Cities such as Arrakeen and Harko Village, complete with banks, shops, drinking establishments, stories to unravel, and other players to meet in multiplayer.
- Traversal as a core mechanic: ground and flying vehicles, climbing, rappelling, and soaring. Exploration on Arrakis is dramatic and exciting.
- A sandbox combat system where mixing melee weapons, ranged weapons, and special powers makes for deep, engaging combat experiences.
- Multiple ways to play: full single-player, with friends on private servers, or large-scale multiplayer on official servers with hundreds of people.

What’s New in the XBOX Version?
Dune: Awakening has been out on PC since June 2025. During that time, we have added a ton of new content and enhancements, all of which will be in the XBOX version on day one. But there will also be several entirely new additions:
Single-player is perhaps the most important new addition. You will finally be able to experience everything Dune: Awakening has to offer in a fully-fledged single-player mode, where you can play the game entirely at your own pace. This is not a scaled down version of the game; it’s the full experience, start to finish.
UI and controls have been optimized for XBOX, ensuring that the Dune: Awakening experience translates perfectly to console. You will also be able to choose between Performance Mode (default) and Quality Mode, with Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS. We look forward to showing more XBOX gameplay in the future.
Scalable difficulty and game customization goes hand-in-hand with single-player but is also available on private servers. You will now be able to customize many different aspects of your game, including enabling and disabling sandstorms, increasing harvesting and experience rate, adjusting what drops on death, base building piece limits, and much more. We want to give you the freedom to customize the game to how you will enjoy it, tailoring difficulty and other options to your preference.
The full story of Book One will finally be available. On PC, we have rolled out multiple chapters over time that have expanded the story, introducing hours of extra main story and side activities. When the game launches on XBOX, you will be able to experience the whole story from beginning to end. We’re very proud of the cinematic storytelling of Dune: Awakening and can’t wait for you to discover it for yourself.

Beyond everything new that’s coming when the game finally arrives on XBOX on September 22, XBOX players will also get to enjoy everything that’s been added and enhanced in the PC version over the past year.

- PvP is now fully optional in multiplayer, the entire game supports PvE play.
- The late-game is bigger and better than ever, with countless hours of content.

- The world has been expanded, with many new locations as well as new missions to complete and dynamic encounters to discover in the world.
