Longtime New York Almanack contributor Paul Hetzler recently published his first collection of short fiction, Stories from the Deep.
Stories that delve deeply into our shared human experience of loss, longing, and regret, while leaving an opening, even if a mere sliver, for the redemption and transformation we all hope for, comprise the first half of the book.
The second half of the book dives into science fiction that ranges from the comically bizarre to the disturbingly horrific.
Hetzler was the natural-resources educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County for many years. Previously, he has published three separate volumes of nature essays with a dry wit that often makes readers laugh out loud.
Hetzler has lived in Québec since 2020.
