NBA Fans React To Benched Bronny James Mocking Victor Wembanyama With Questionable Gesture

by Ohio Digital News

NBA fans criticized Bronny James’ reaction to Victor Wembanyama picking up his fifth foul during the LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs game on Wednesday. The Lakers squeaked by with a 118-116 win after a tightly contested game.

Wembanyama recorded 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block as the Spurs suffered their second loss of the season. He was not on the floor to finish the game after fouling out with 1:30 left.

After the 7-foot-4 center picked up his fifth foul, Bronny James, who was on the bench to finish the game, made a gesture toward him, clenching his fist. Clips of the moment were shared on social media by X user @PuprGolded, drawing various reactions from fans.

Some fans called James shameless for the gesture, and others joked about how the interaction would be the highlight of his 2025-26 campaign. Here are the most noteworthy reactions on X:

“Shameless player,” one fan wrote.

@PurpGolded Gonna be his highlight of the season

@PurpGolded “Do something… my dad is sitting right there” 😂

Luka Doncic led the way for the Lakers in the win, recording 35 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists. Deandre Ayton also had his best game with the Lakers, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Bronny James’ struggles continue in his sophomore NBA season

Criticism and trolling from the fans are not new to Bronny James, as he has yet to find his footing in the NBA. He has played six games for the Lakers this season, averaging 1.5 points, shooting 21.4%. Ahead of the 2025-26 season, it was expected that Bronny James would be a bigger part of the action.

While he is playing more minutes, his impact still leaves much to be desired. James noted during the preseason that he would need to put in more effort on the defensive end. While his defensive rating has improved, his net rating is still in the negative, leaving room for improvement.

James is in the second-last guaranteed season of his contract with the Lakers and has a long way to go if he hopes to land another deal in the NBA after his lackluster stint in LA. The team will return to action on Saturday to face the Atlanta Hawks.
