An organizer of a Christmas fair in Mexico was shot to death outside of a church during the Christmas Eve festivities Tuesday.

Martin Ramirez Ruiz, board president of the Christmas fair in the state of Guerrero’s capital, Chilpancingo, was killed alongside another man in a targeted attack, according to the Associated Press.

The assailants fired upon the local honcho while he was partaking in a seasonal dance, according to AFP.

Local authorities say one other man was killed, and a third man was injured in the attack.

An investigation into the attack is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.

The Chilpancingo Christmas fair is a major local event in the southern state of Mexico, drawing thousands of revelers into the streets of the city which was founded in 1591.

Governor Evelyn Salgado took to social media to call the violent killing “an unacceptable act that will not go unpunished.”

No motive has been announced by authorities, though extortion practices and the violence associated with those practices, are routine among powerful Mexican gangs, according to the Associated Press.

Two rival drug gangs are currently in a turf war in Chilpancingo — with the Tlacos and Ardillos facing off in the streets and causing both high and low profile deaths.

Back in October, Mayor Alejandro Arcos was killed by a gang six days into his mayoralty.

Arcos’ headless body was found in a pickup truck, with his severed head donning the car’s roof.
