Karol G shared her fiery Latina flavor at the VMAs with some of the show’s biggest stars. Karol G graced the 2024 Video Music Awards on Wednesday to perform her recent single, “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” in front of a beachy backdrop before she shimmied to her merengue hit alongside Camila Cabello and Taylor Swift.
“Los extraño un montón,” she said to start the performance. “I miss y’all a lot!”
Karol G opened her performance in front of the flags of all the countries in Latin America. Then, she walked toward the main stage, which had been transformed into a beachside bar, and sang to the dancing crowd. The singer walked into the audience and danced alongside Swift and Post Malone before approaching Cabello for a little Cuban-Colombian shimmy.
Karol G, who was featured on Rolling Stone’s September 2023 cover, is also nominated in the Best Latin category for her song “Mi Ex Tenía Razón” off the Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) mixtape. Addison Rae introduced Karol’s performance on Wednesday.
Cabello, Anitta, Benson Boone, Halsey, Chappell Roan, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and Sabrina Carpenter are among the performers to hit the stage at this year’s VMAs.
The Colombian superstar last appeared on the VMAs stage in 2023 and performed her standout hit from Bichota Season, “Oki Doki,” and her verse from her Brazilian funk collab “Tá OK” (the track features Dennis, Maluma, and MC Kevin O Chris). During last year’s ceremony, Karol G also appeared on stage to accept her first Moon Person alongside Shakira when they won Best Collaboration for their song “TQG.”
Karol G’s fourth studio album, Mañana Será Bonito, also featured massive hits such as “Provenza,” “Mientras Me Curo del Cora,” and “Amargura.” Mañana earned Karol the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year and Best Urban Music Album, plus the Grammy for Best Música Urbana Album. She followed Mañana with the B-side Bichota Season, which included collabs with Kali Uchis, Peso Pluma, and Ryan Castro.
“I imagined that I was going to accomplish a lot of things in my life, but really, I never imagined it’d be to the point that it is today,” the singer told Rolling Stone when looking back at her success. “To reach so many people, touch so many people in so many different aspects — it still blows my mind,” she said. “Life has shown me that so many things are possible. I have 10 times more ambition and vision than what I imagined.”
The 2024 Video Music Awards are airing live on MTV from the UBS Arena in Long Island.
