“Thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence you expect,” he wrote

Usher is pushing back the start of his upcoming tour to fully recover from a neck injury. On Thursday, the R&B superstar announced that he’ll commence his Past Present Future Tour on Aug. 20 in D.C. once he’s fully recovered from his injury and announced new dates for stops in Atlanta.

“My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night,” he wrote. “Unfortunately the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.”

Usher explained that he suffered the injury during rehearsals for what he calls “the greatest Usher show of all time,” and that with “appropriate rest and treatment,” he should be able to start the tour in D.C. on Aug. 20.

“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an Usher show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon,” he added.

His shows in Atlanta — originally scheduled for Aug. 14, 16, and 17 — will now take place at the end of his run, on Dec. 9, 10, and 12.

Usher first announced the upcoming run of shows, following the release of his album Coming Home and his headlining performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. The new run is his first since 2014’s UR Experience Tour, although he did host 100 shows for his “My Way” residency at the Park MGM in Las Vegas.

The new trek will see Usher stop in cities including Toronto, New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, and Houston.
