Chef Gordon Ramsay took to social media to share he nearly died in a bike accident in Connecticut.
No, it didn’t happen in Las Vegas, but it’s still Vegas-related because the chef has 147 restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip.
Ramsay showed off a massive bruise while wishing everyone a happy Father’s Day. Which was a weird juxtaposition, but still.
Here’s the entire social media post from Ramsay.
An important #FathersDay message from me…WEAR A HELMET ! This week I had a bad accident while riding my bike in CT. I’m doing ok and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at @LMHospital who looked after me but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Be Safe pic.twitter.com/UMjaoXGpkc

You could sort of tell something was seriously off with Ramsay, as his hands are shaking at the beginning of the video.
Along with his colorful vocabulary, those hands are Ramsay’s money-makers. They have even been enshrined in a piece of art at Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris. The neon sculpture was inspired by Ramsay’s hands when he cooks.
Ramsay is an avid cyclist, which we actually didn’t know until his video, but he has taken part in triathlons and Iron Man competitions.
You would think given his lucrative deals with companies like Caesars Entertainment, his business partners would be freaking out a little that their licensing partner is risking life and limb on the regular.
Ramsay is contractually obligated to make personal appearances at all his Vegas restaurants at least once a year for 24 hours.
His list of Vegas restaurants continues to grow, as Gordon Ramsay Burger is currently under construction at Flamingo Las Vegas.
Anyway, following Ramsay’s close call, he reminded everyone of the importance of helmets for cyclists, and also thanked the surgeons, doctors, nurses and other medical staff for their help and expertise.
Lest anyone think Ramsay is exaggerating the seriousness of his accident for publicity purposes, here are photos he shared on Instagram showing the damage to his helmet.
On Instagram, Ramsay posted the message: “This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut. I’m doing OK and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato. I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life.”
Gordon Ramsay is a polarizing character, but he’s woven into the colorful tapestry that is Las Vegas, so he’s ours.
We are protective of anything ours, so we’re happy to hear he wasn’t seriously injured.
