Jewish Americans Embrace Firearms Amid Rising Antisemitism

by Ohio Digital News

In response to the alarming surge in antisemitism across the nation, Jewish Americans are resorting to drastic measures to safeguard themselves and their families. Many are turning to firearms, a choice previously unconsidered, as a means of protection.

Amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, Florida gun store owner David Kowalsky shed light on the increasing number of Jewish individuals seeking to purchase firearms and undergo training. He shared his observations on “America’s Newsroom,” revealing that many are driven by genuine fears for their safety.

Kowalsky recounted the stories of people who have received direct threats since the conflict erupted, highlighting the vandalization of neighborhoods, synagogues, and areas, along with explicit threats aimed at Jews. Antisemitism has surged by a staggering 388%, according to the Anti-Defamation League, permeating college campuses and even manifesting outside the White House gates.

Protests in Washington, D.C., over the weekend drew tens of thousands of anti-Israel demonstrators, some expressing support for Hamas and advocating for the annihilation of the Jewish state. Organizations like the ANSWER Coalition facilitated the participation of thousands in these pro-Palestinian demonstrations, amplifying the voices against Israel.

In light of the widespread anti-Israel sentiment, Jewish students and families have become increasingly apprehensive about their safety, leading them to explore their Second Amendment rights. Gun store owners, like Kowalsky and Eric Fletcher of Burbank Ammo and Guns in California, have witnessed a significant rise in first-time firearm buyers within the Jewish community. Jewish women, in particular, are showing keen interest in learning how to protect their families, indicating a shift in societal norms.

This surge in firearms training and ownership signifies a growing sense of empowerment and confidence among Jewish Americans, who, in the face of rising antisemitism, are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of their loved ones.
